Frequently asked questions

The questions we hear most about GEO (how it works, how results are measured, how we stay compliant, and what it costs), together with the boundaries most providers won't volunteer.

The basics

What is the difference between GEO and SEO?

SEO targets keyword rankings and clicks, working with search engine algorithms. GEO targets how AI systems understand, cite, and recommend your brand, working with how large language models retrieve and reason. The two are complementary, not competing: GEO builds on a solid SEO foundation and works alongside it.

Is GEO about optimizing AI, or optimizing content?

We cannot access, and do not attempt to access, the internals of any AI model. GEO optimizes assets your business controls: the consistency of your brand entity across the web, the semantic structure of your content, and coverage in authoritative sources, and how all of it is retrieved and understood. GEO is essentially about stating clearly who you are and where the evidence lives, not manipulating models.

Which types of businesses benefit from GEO?

If several of these signals apply, GEO is worth evaluating: your customers ask AI how to choose or what to recommend; decisions in your industry depend on trust and comparison; your offering needs explaining; you rank well in traditional search but stay invisible in AI answers; and you care about steady, long-term customer acquisition. This pattern is especially common in B2B, enterprise services, SaaS, cross-border trade, and professional services.

Results & timeline

How long does GEO take to show results?

GEO is a mid- to long-term visibility asset. Most projects see directional signals within 3–6 months, such as rising mention frequency, more accurate descriptions, and better recommendation context, while stable results typically take 6–12 months. Be wary of anyone promising fast results.

Can GEO guarantee my brand gets recommended by AI?

No. Any provider that guarantees it deserves scrutiny. No third party controls what a large language model outputs. Our work is to systematically improve the probability and consistency of being understood, cited, and recommended, documented in verifiable deliverables.

How do you measure GEO results?

We measure with four core metrics: mention rate (how often your brand appears in AI answers), citation rate (how often it is cited as a source), description accuracy (how correctly AI states key facts about you), and recommendation position (where and how your brand appears in recommendation-type answers). Every metric is reported with its definitions and limitations; we never treat a single answer as a conclusion.

If results are unclear after a few months, what happens?

We assess whether the direction is working through regular visibility reviews. If the data shows the investment is not paying off, we will proactively recommend adjusting the strategy, or pausing it, rather than burning budget to fill out a contract term. Independent judgment is part of the service.

Execution & compliance

Which AI platforms do you cover?

In China: DeepSeek, Doubao, Kimi, Tencent Yuanbao, ERNIE Bot, and Tongyi Qianwen. Internationally: ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Copilot, and Google AI Overviews. We prioritize platforms based on where your customers actually are.

What's the difference between on-site and off-site GEO? Which comes first?

On-site GEO addresses whether AI can accurately understand you: entity rework, semantic structure, and structured data. Off-site GEO addresses whether AI keeps encountering you across trustworthy sources. We usually recommend starting on-site (off-site investment is wasted if AI's baseline understanding of you is wrong), while competitive industries benefit from running both in combination. The audit phase gives you a recommendation specific to your situation.

Does GEO carry compliance risks? Do you do content spamming?

No. We follow platform rules and advertising regulations: no fake reviews, no mass-produced low-quality content, no fabricated citations. Compliance in GEO starts with truth: real facts, real reputation, real capabilities. Citations built on false information are neither stable nor verifiable.

What do we need to prepare before starting?

Three categories of materials: brand and business information (products, positioning, credentials), your target markets and customer profiles, and existing content assets (website, social accounts, case studies). We handle the organizing work; key facts are confirmed with you before anything is published.

Pricing & engagement

How much does GEO cost?

Cost depends on industry competition, your starting foundation, and target tier. Engagements typically follow either a monthly subscription or a phased project model. Small businesses can start with a lightweight subscription, while enterprise programs cover deeper governance and monitoring. After the free audit, you receive a written estimate with explicit ranges; we don't use vague quotes to win signatures.

We are a small business on a limited budget. Is GEO worth it?

Many small businesses' customers already ask AI for buying advice, so GEO can be a real advantage. We offer a lightweight monthly subscription that starts with making sure AI understands who you are, validating the direction at a manageable cost before scaling up.
